Forever Alone @ Universal Studios, SG

I rummaged (more) through daughter's album of our Singapore trip and found some interesting photos of  her visit of Universal Studios. I know, I had posted enough of this theme park, inch by inch  here, that I'm not sure now if Universal Studios would be thankful of me or would hate me for showing everything that others who had read my blogs (don't worry UStudios, I don't have remarkable numbers of followers yet, you're relatively safe :))) might not be interested anymore to come over cos they had seen it all already here. haha!

The weird thing was daughter was very excited to spend the day inside the park all by herself. She didn't at all entertain the idea of me going with her cos she knew me_ I don't enjoy theme park rides and that makes her my opposite. She loves all the thrills of riding challenging rides. She was particular to experience the Battlestar Gallactica's dueling roller coasters, which I had forbidden her not to and eventually didn't and had just took beautiful photos of them.

These two came from her lens. I thought these would compensate for my  failed photos  in my post of Sci-fi City.

So from here on_ it would be she, by herself, alone with nothing but her camera as a companion inside the Universal Studios. So proud of her:)) well, for one I haven't heard anybody enjoyed a theme park alone by herself. That's how weird my daughter is, haha.

This was daughter's most favorite ride_  the Transformers. Relatively new and wasn't operative yet during my visit in March 2011. Daughter had enjoyed it last April this year. She was bubbling about how thrilled she got over this 3D ride that she's so wishing to comeback to Singapore only to ride this again and again!

It's a good thing that she saw different set of mascots that day and was able to experience new rides that weren't there yet during my visits.

She was able to meet her real parents - Shrek & Fiona :))) Weren't around during my visit. She had to endure the long queue for the photo ops ofcourse.

Ogre's house. I also missed it cos Shrek wasn't around  then to remind me to pass by here.

Daughter Shrek-ed so much she even rode the Shrek ride which I think is actually a kiddie ride. haha.

She didn't miss the Shrek in 4D which I told her so as it was my favorite.

Now here_ daughter committed the same mistake I did! She did enter Donkey Live.Obviously she forgot  my reminder to her not to waste time there. tsk.tsk. haha. She felt the same as I did towards this show. Her
own captions of the picture in her album : " if ever napadpad kayo dito, lumabas kayo agad!! ". ( if you have set foot here, make sure to run out fast). haha.

At Madagascar which was also just coming soon by the time of my visit and was in full blown during hers.

Some street entertainments featuring vintage characters. ..

. . and entertainers from our land_ Pinoy pride!!!

she went around more munching some treats from this cart. .

and more junks from one of the food outlets there.

One of her "forever alone camwhore photos :)). She did have a great time with tons of photos which I have to cut here cos they are so many. she was one of the last guests to exit and when it was time to fetch her, had to extend some more than 30 minutes waiting for her outside.

Universal Studios

I had an awesome day at Universal Studios, SG. Location : Resort World, Sentosa, Singapore. Admission : SG$72. Date of visit : March 2011

I don't think express pass (additional SG$30 on top of the SG$72) is necessary. We didn't avail any. I'm not sure thu' if you're going on weekends but on a weekday we went (and we were there early before 9am.), the ticket  and attraction queues were easy.
Here are some of the attractions I had fun with :
;) Mascots-> here and there
:) Shrek in 4D
;) WaterWorld
;) Lights, Camera, Action
and some that I found boring or too challenging for this boring mom :
;> Revenge of the Mummy
;} Accelerator
;(  Donkey Live
;( Treasure Hunters
;> Battlestar Gallactica
I enjoyed lunch at :
;) Discovery Food Court

Look when I shouted  f-r-e-e-z-e !!! everybody halted. . spot the most common gadget. . need I say it aloud??? Everyone dared not get caught without a camera in his hand.
Apparently, Universal Studios was more of an adult theme park choice. Per my visit, the park had more number of adult guests than kids. Why not, most of the attractions here were movie themed popular before today's generation. That means- the parents' time. I guess Disneyland is more cohesive as  for-all- ages park. We all grew up with Disneys. and so our kids today still enjoys Disneys. Yet Universal Studios owns its unique  character.

Today is Monday here in P.I. Although officially works start to cease on Maundy Thursday, traditonally we are already in observance of the Holy Week . I'm giving my favorite companion (my camera) a rest too this Holy Week. . . or I wouldn't???
Let's see if I could squeeze some chance  this week a glance or two of  Holy Week scenes in our country.
For now, take it slow. . time to pray and heal. God Bless us all.

Sci-Fi City

I wandered the shortest at the Sci-Fi City among the seven themed zones of Universal Studios in Singapore.

It was because_ first of all this zone had the least number of attractions (as of my visit last month March2011, they got only 3 ), although I must say got the most popular ones.

The Battlestar Galllactica, Human and Cyclon were here. A pair of dueling roller coasters . The Human is a sit-down coaster and at a certain points can reach a speeds of up to 90 km/hr (56 mph). While the Cyclon is a suspended roller coaster which means a more challenging ride with intense maneuvers like Cobra roll, corkscrews, vertical loop and zero-g roll. Haay, I'm actually totally clueless about these loops. But my brother, a thrill addict had this pair rides and was ecstatic about them. That day we were there, the Cyclon had just opened to the public, not sure if it just had undergone a repair or just made its first admissions. Everyone was on the Human and brother braved the Cyclon alone!!! Yep the whole of it was his!!! No one dared! So when he got off, at the exit everyone was clapping for him. haha!!

Going back of not being a fan of Sci- Fi, second of all, I'm not into sci-fi movies. I always demand some realities in a film. If it were too much out of this planet, I'm out of it.

Third of all, I'm not so much of a thrill seeker in terms of rides. Never hang with me in a theme park with challenging rides like U Studios! I would bore you to death. Just so I had something to look back at the Sci-Fi zone, I let myself got twirled (twirl not spin, it was a very mild whirling ride) in a tea cup ride of the Accelerator.

:( These are all I got from the Sci-Fi zone. Pardon for my self portrait photos, haha. I accidentally deleted the ones I took with my dslr which are supposedly more interesting captures of the place instead of my uberly selfcentered photos here which I got from my travelmates' albums.

The Donkey & The Hurricane

Be blown away by incredible special effects as an empty soundstage becomes the setting for a Category 5 major hurricane about to hit New York City. As you stand in a boathouse by the harbor, watch how a calm day suddenly turns stormy. Brace yourself as hurricane-force winds sweep in from the sea and drive a cargo ship and debris towards the boathouse you’re in. Calm soon returns and the damaged boathouse restores itself, all thanks to movie magic.

One of the  attractions that amused me in Universal Studios,SG, was an indoor movie special effects show called Lights, Camera, Action.

a local host briefed us of what to expect. .water splash, fire, horrendous winds, sounds and shaking. . anything in a hurricane. .just now I have thoughts: how about a tsunami theme in a similar show discipline. . ???

preparing for the worst to come:))) a hurricane was expected!!

V

everything was real in this stage right before my eyes, except for those behind the huge windows which I had guessed were filmed.

. .  as if all those were not enough to paralyze my nerves. .out of nowhere a titanic ship entered the stage!! whoahhh!!!

Now ask me what's the most boring attraction at US, Singapore!

It was a show called Donkey Live!

With me were those I would guess_ were first timers adults  too, otherwise they would have had let their kids on their own to see this show without them.

I really felt trapped. . if only the entrance door was not locked after we entered. . I would have had exited the minute I entered.haha.

It was actually an interactive show, whereas donkey was filmed but the voice was live. The audience was encourage by the host to participate to thave a conversation with donkey in a film that  didn't even look so 3D to me.
I was happiest when the show was over and I was released! haha.

Ancient Egypt & The Lost World

Ancient Egypt

Universal Studios, Singapore

"Ancient pyramids and obelisks stand fast against the sands of time as you are transported to 1930’s Egypt, the Golden Age of Egyptian Exploration. Travel to an era when entire Pharaohs tombs were discovered- and their terrible curses unleashed".- borrowed from U Studios, SG's website, hehe. Well, I would have had said the same description of the place, anyway.

I like this angle where the future and the past stand side by side. In the background (before Ancient Egypt) is the Battlestar Galactica, the world tallest roller coaster at Sci-Fi City.

Just make sure you are not under these giant statues when an earthquake strikes. eeeee. .

In this side of Universal Studios, Revenge of the Mummy is the most popular one.

I heard a lot, really detailed experiences from my friends, of this attraction and well. . . sorry, obviously not for this less-fearless mom.

If it's only all about creatures ( plagued on all sides by huge fireballs, swarms of scarab beetles and an army of warrior mummies, all in total darkness. ) tricking appearances, I could survive. . .

but to ride a high speed indoor roller coaster, mostly in total darkness? No. Brother, my opposite, totally loved this ride. He tried it not only twice but thrice and wanted another one if only we were not losing time.

While waiting for him, we went across and found this Treasure Hunters which specifically for children. The staff at the entrance stressed : this attraction is very nice for kids! But look at the queue_ mostly kids at heart! , haha.

that included me!! shameless me, even drove the poor little ancient car.My thicker faced friends were my passengers, we didn't have kids with us, hahaha.

So there_ fake smoking mummy, fake snake and croc. . hey hey! what are you bitching about??? You were warned that this is a boring ride for kids, remember? hahaha.

How glad we were when it was over, haha.

The Lost World

I closed my eyes. . .

and when I opened them, I found myself in The Lost World!

At the Jurassic Park it was already lunch time so we ate here .

There were four attractions here but most of them required me to get wet. So I choose the Canopy Flyer, away from the water splash.

Ok, no water wetting - check, but hey no one said it was a roller coaster ride, mini, yes! but still. . . .!!!!! I just closed my eyes all throughout the ride and caught my breath at the end, haha. Everyone, except me, looked bored thu', hahaha.

Another major attraction here, if it's your first time like mine, is the WaterWorld which you could see here.
